Extended Supplier Agreement with Matheson Gas

University-wide Contracted Supplier, Matheson Gas’s Supplier Agreement has been extended for two years, ending on January 31, 2025.

New pricing in accordance with the new Supplier Agreement will result in an increase in the cost of helium by 31.9% and an average cost of 13.6% for all other gases. It is important to note the following in relation to this new pricing:

  • The increases mentioned above are slightly lower than the Industrial Gases Producer Price Index of 14.3% for 2022.
  • Helium continues to be a worldwide premium gas that is on allocation for many domestic and foreign customers.
  • Improvements in global stability and pricing are expected between late 2023 and early 2024 which may allow a decrease in prices, especially of helium.

Matheson Gas, which offers industrial and specialty gases to the University, has made significant investments to support their relationship with Pitt including:

  • New driver training
  • Dedicated account representative with support on-campus several days per week
  • Updated cylinder inventory
  • Improved work / delivery instructions to Pitt labs thus enabling all Matheson Gas drivers to easily make deliveries.
  • Mapping of the 26 University buildings that routinely require point-of-use delivery (i.e. – delivery directly to the lab rather than a loading dock)
