New Airfare Booking System Update

In a previous announcement, we informed you that last April, American Airlines became an early and rapid adopter of a new airfare distribution system for its fares. However, this rapid change was not properly coordinated and tested with third-party consolidators (such as Expedia and Orbitz), corporate travel management companies (Anthony Travel, for example), and software companies (including Concur). We wanted to provide an update on the transition to the new fare system and how you can ensure you are booking the best flight options when you travel.

What’s the latest update on these fares being available in Concur?

Anthony Travel, along with other travel management companies, is working closely with Concur in testing the new technology to ensure that American Airlines’ fares are accurate prior to including American airfares in Concur. The absence of American Airlines’ fares from online booking tools, such as Concur, is creating frustration in the industry for corporate/higher education clients. After reviewing the results of the most recent round of testing, the University is still not comfortable that the new functionality is working properly, and therefore, has delayed its implementation at Pitt. In order to access the best fares available for American Airlines, please follow the instructions below.

What should I do if I want to book an American Airlines flight?

Until the functionality is working properly, you can book your American Airlines flights with Anthony Travel agents who have visibility to all American Airlines’ accurate fares. Any travel booked through an agent will populate in your Concur profile, allowing you to keep the same digital visibility of your trips. Anthony Travel agents can book a flight for a new trip or add a flight to an existing itinerary.

Why did American Airlines switch systems?

American Airlines has switched their focus to leisure travel and publishing fares though various platforms and not sharing all fares with all platforms.

Did any other airlines switch their systems?

As anticipated, the new system is trending towards becoming the new industry standard and all airlines will be making the transition to the new fare system over the coming years. However, unlike American, the other airlines have opted to make a gentler and smoother transition by still operating in the previous system to ensure all platforms are able to fully implement the new fare system before totally converting.
