Printing Services recently shared that the University is discontinuing onsite printing operations through the Print Shop as of June 30, 2022, based on the environmental impact and continued declining use of traditional printing. Learn more on the Printing Services website.
To assist with this change, we want to ensure that you are aware of the following resources departments can utilize for digital design and production services and when traditional printing is required.
University Resources
- University Communications and Marketing may be able to assist in designing your print or digital project materials; Please submit a Marketing Project Request Form. Learn more from University Communications about design & print as well as the ins and outs of producing high-quality printed marketing materials.
- Copy Cat, located in Alan Magee Scaife Hall, remains open for copying, collating, and course packet production; Student printing also remains available through Pitt IT.
- As part of the University’s sustainability goals, we encourage Pitt community members to go paperless where possible, by utilizing the many digital solutions available. Additional digital solutions continue to be identified and we will share more information when available.
University-wide Contracted Suppliers
Last year, we established twelve University-wide Contracted Suppliers for print and graphic design services. These University-wide Contracted Suppliers are available to support your printing and graphic design needs during and beyond this transition.
University Policy AO 30 requires that departments use a University-wide Contracted Supplier for purchasing items/services for which the University has an agreement. Additionally, utilizing these University-wide Contracted Suppliers provides a variety of benefits, including:
- Best overall value and brand fidelity to the University.
- Competitive pricing. Please note: we still recommended obtaining quotes from multiple suppliers to ensure the best pricing.
- Wide range of high-quality services to fit needs.
- Faster contracting process for the services required.
- Supporting local and diverse businesses.
Note: remember to specify double-sided items, vegetable-based inks, and/or paper that’s FSC, carbon neutral, or has recycled content, when printing with external vendors.
PrintGizmo
eLynxx’s PrintGizmo is availble beginning 11/21/22, which is a user-friendly way to bid and award print and graphic design projects to University-wide Contracted Suppliers. PrintGizmo is accessed through a punchout in the PantherExpress System and provides a solution for ordering University branded printed items such as letterhead, business cards, etc. Visit this page for the latest information about PrintGizmo.
