Animal Imports and Services

The University’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) oversees the University's animal programs, facilities and procedures ensuring the appropriate care, use, and humane treatments of animals being used for research, testing and education. The IACUC serves as a resource to faculty, investigators, technicians, students, staff, and administrators, providing guidance in fulfilling the obligation to plan and conduct all animal use procedures with the highest scientific, humane, and ethical principles. Visit the Animal Research Protection website to learn more about how to work with IACUC and other animal research guidelines, regulations, and resources.

All live animal purchases must be made by the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources and require an active protocol from the IACUC. To initiate a live animal purchase, visit the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources’ (DLAR) website. You need an HSConnect account to access the DLAR website, for assistance in creating an account, visit this page.

For all international imports of live animals, contact both the University-wide Contracted Supplier for customs brokerage services, Mohawk Global Logistics and the DLAR Import/Export Coordinator, import@pitt.edu
