Zoltun is home to a talented group of graphic designers that expertly create visual solutions. We asked co-owners Janey Zoltun, Christy Zoltun Donati and Rick Zoltun for more information about the company’s background so that you can better get to know this local and diverse supplier: 

What motivated you to start your business? 

The emergence of Apple computers and their association with graphic design. We fell in love with Apple products and decided to open a design firm. Our first business name, prior to incorporating, was Zoltun Technical Design – The Macintosh Professionals. 

In what year was your business started? 

1990 

What is your connection to the Pittsburgh area?

Zoltun is a local business, located in McKees Rocks. Additionally, co-owners Janey Zoltun, Christy Zoltun Donati and Rick Zoltun all grew up in Penn Hills. 

What products or services does your business provide, and are there any unique offerings that you have to highlight? 

The Zoltun Design team is fluent in the entire Adobe suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat; as well as the Microsoft suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. We specialize in design for print, web, and social media. Our expertise includes logos, branding, email campaigns, illustrations, infographics, icons, brochures, annual reports, flipbooks, direct mail, newsletters, posters, fliers, web banner ads, PowerPoint presentations, white papers, trade show displays, and event graphics. In addition, Zoltun provides copywriting, editing and proofreading services. 

A unique offering we would like to highlight is Zoltun can prepare Section 508 and ADA compliance files as part of the graphic design process. 

What work or special projects have you done for the Pitt community? 

Work we have done for the Pitt community includes graphic design for print, web, and social media, logo design, infographics, icons, brochures, annual reports, flipbooks, direct mail, fliers, ads, PowerPoint presentations. Zoltun also provides website content review services which includes creating a streamlined navigation plan, reorganization of priority content, consolidation of duplicate content, original content creation, copy editing and proofreading services. 

What is the story or mission behind the business being what it is today? Has your company had to grow or pivot since you first launched? 

We have had to change much over the years. Our mission has changed though. In our early years the mission was to eat at every establishment on the South Side. Once that was complete, we changed the mission to be: "To deliver our talent to market while maintaining a high degree of credibility, respect, fairness, pride and loyalty to our people and to our clients.” 

Does your business have any special initiatives such as sustainability programs, volunteer work, etc. that you would like to highlight? 

We have proudly supported The Education Partnership for many years. 

Does your business identify as diverse? If so, what does it mean to you? 

Yes, we are WBENC certified as a National Women’s Business Enterprise. Our staff is 75% women and women hold all of the key roles in administration, business development and legal. 

What is your affiliation with Pitt? 

Co-owners Janey Zoltun and Christy Zoltun Donati are both Pitt grads. 

Do you have any interesting information or details that you would like to share with readers? 

Zoltun has been an active alumnus of Pitt’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence (IEE) since the very early 2000s. Additionally, co-owner Rick Zoltun has been a guest judge for the Swanson School of Engineering Design Expo on numerous occasions.
