How do I process orders for gene analysis or sequencing?
- The University’s Core Labs offer gene sequencing and analysis services. These resources should be contacted before using an outside supplier as described below.
- Standard or Custom Gene Sequencing or Analysis Services?
Wording such as “design”, “develop” and “synthesize” could indicate the service may be more custom than standard; however, you may still see this wording with standard commercial gene sequencing or analysis services for a) biology research, b) drug discovery or c) diagnostics DNA sequencing applications involved.
Standard Commercial Gene Sequencing or Analysis Services Regularly Offered by Supplier (Purchase Order)
Orders for standard commercial gene sequencing or analysis services regularly offered to all clients are processed using a PantherExpress System Standard Form (non-catalog form, USD/quote form or blanket/standing order) (the blanket/standing order form should be used when the department anticipates the same services to be provided several times over a certain period of time). The appropriate requisition checklist should be used as guidance to complete the PantherExpress System Forms.
Examples of these services include:
- Whole exome sequencing
- Target region sequencing
- Single Cell Eukaryotic transcriptome
- Illumina sequencing
- Total RNA
- Pyrosequencing
- Methylation analysis
- Amplicon sequencing
Customized Gene Sequencing or Analysis and/or Research Consultation and Collaboration (Services Agreement)
If the supplier will provide customized services and/or provide analysis and consultation concerning the results of the sequencing and provide recommendations on the direction of further research efforts, then the services may require a services agreement and a robust scope of services and certain legal terms. The University’s Services Agreement (Short Form) may be appropriate for values of $15,000 or less. For services greater than $15,000, the University’s Services Agreement is proper.
Often these services are accompanied by intricate milestones and deliverables which the supplier is required to meet and the requirements may state the supplier is to provide consultation on the research project during the term of the agreement. The appropriate services agreement checklist should be used as guidance to complete the PantherExpress System Contract Request.
