SUPRA/ODP Updates and Reminders: Paper Price Reductions, K-Cycle Program Prices, MyBusinessRecycles Information

Please review the following updates and reminders related to SUPRA/ODP, a University-wide Contracted Supplier for office supplies.

Price Reduction for Aspen 30% Recycled and X-9 Copy Paper

Prices for two of Pitt’s most frequently purchased varieties of copy paper were recently reduced:

> Aspen 30% Recycled Paper: ODP Item # 116946
   Previous Price = $59.77/case
   New Price = $49.48/case ($10.29 or 17.2% reduction)

> X-9 Copy Paper: ODP Item # 196517
   Previous Price = $58.99/case
   New Price = $48.88/case ($10.11 or 17.1% reduction)

After multiple years of paper price increases resulting from COVID-19 and other industry factors, Pitt, SUPRA, and ODP welcome the recently implemented price reductions.

As the price for Aspen 30% Recycled Paper is within $0.60 of the price for X-9 (non-recycled) Copy Paper, please consider purchasing Aspen 30% Recycled Paper for your paper needs in an effort to support Pitt’s Sustainability Initiatives.

We encourage you to make a sustainable choice for your office by opting to go digital wherever possible or purchasing Aspen30 recycled content paper. For just $0.60 more per case, each ton of recycled content paper purchased saves 770 trees and carbon emissions equal to taking 30 cars off the road for a year—your choices make a sustainable impact!

Price Increase for K-Cycle Program

Effective January 1, 2024, Keurig Dr. Pepper (Keurig) no longer provides Pitt’s K-Cycle Recycling and Composting Program at no cost. The K-Cycle program will still be available to Pitt at a negotiated discount of 50% off the regular price:

> Large (450 K-Cup Pods Capacity per Bin): ODP Item # 5171622
   Regular Price = $169.95/ 5-bin pack
   Pitt discounted price = $84.99 / 5-bin pack (or $17.00/bin)

> Small (175 K-Cup Pods Capacity per Bin): ODP Item # 8638118
   Regular Price = $119.99 / 5-bin pack
   Pitt discounted price = $59.99 / 5-bin pack (or $12.00/bin)

As a result of this change, you can now order the K-Cycle bins directly through the SUPRA punchout in the PantherExpress System.

This cost increase is the result of a company-wide decision at Keurig to end free sponsorship of all K-Cycle programs. As Keurig’s third-largest customer, ODP attempted to secure an exception to keep free sponsorship at Pitt. While Keurig did not agree to this exception, ODP was successful in negotiating the above discounts, which are not offered to all Keurig customers. We encourage you to continue participation in the K-Cycle program if you are already enrolled or to consider enrollment if you do not already participate. Since the introduction of the K-Cycle program at Pitt, over 1,962,000 K-Cup pods have been diverted from landfill. By weight, 75% of a K-Cup is composted and 25% is recycled by Keurig.

Another sustainable option for coffee lovers is to deconstruct your own K-Cup pod and compost your grounds through Pitt’s on-campus compost collection system. Learn more sustainable coffee tips from Pitt Sustainability

REMINDER, if your department participates in the MyBusinessRecycles ink and toner recycling program offered by SUPRA and ODP, please remember to print the shipping label from the MyBusinessRecycles webpage and affix it to the cardboard collection box before placing the box in the outgoing mail. This will ensure the University gets credit for the ink or toner return.

More information on the MyBusinessRecycles program, including the link to register, can be found on the program flyer.
